dc.description	This work analyzes the creation, evolution, and functions of communication channels in the colonial era in the current territory, including the Province of Veraguas. The classification was made in chronological stages, starting from the first visit to the current Province of Veraguas by Admiral Cristóbal Colon in 1503 and then the foundation of the towns from the end of the 16th century. Here the land connections and maritime routes used in the colonial era are described, their importance in the foundation and development of the towns in the studied areas, the use by which these communication networks were created, and their current state. In order to develop the current article, extensive written documentation, a visit to the places, graphic documentation, photographs, unpublished plans were analyzed, which were of great help to know these elements of study so essential in the history and identity of our country, the Province, its towns and the Veraguense society. A graphic database and a theoretical proposal are developed, which can be used as didactic material and for future research by professionals, students, and the cultural use of the entire Panamanian population and internationally. Also, it details the possible causes for which many of these communication channels have fallen into neglect and disuse, in conclusion, some proposals for their use from the tourist, cultural and theoretical point of view.	en-US
dc.description	Este trabajo analiza la creación, evolución y funciones de las vías de comunicación en la época colonial en el actual territorio que comprende la Provincia de Veraguas. Se realizó una clasificación en etapas cronológicas, partiendo desde la primera visita al territorio de la actual Provincia de Veraguas, por el almirante Cristóbal Colón en 1503 y luego la fundación de los poblados a partir de finales del Siglo XVI.  Aquí se describen las conexiones terrestres y rutas marítimas utilizados en la época colonial, su importancia en la fundación y desarrollo de los poblados en las áreas estudiadas, el uso por el cual se crearon estas redes de comunicación y su estado actual. Para poder desarrollar el actual artículo, se analizaron una extensa documentación escrita, visita a los lugares, documentación gráfica, fotografías, planos inéditos, que fueron de gran ayuda para conocer estos elementos de estudio tan importante en la historia y la identidad de nuestro país, la Provincia, sus poblados y la sociedad veragüense.  Se elabora una base de datos gráfica y una propuesta teórica, que pueden ser utilizada como material didáctico y para futuras investigaciones de profesionales, estudiantes y para el uso cultural de toda la población panameña y a nivel internacional. También se detalla las posibles causas por las cuales muchas de estas vías de comunicación han caído en abandono y desuso, además de algunas propuestas para su aprovechamiento desde el punto de vista turístico, cultural y teórico.	es-ES
